About USBands

USBands operates under the banner of the Youth Education in the Arts (YEA!). Since its first event in 1988 as The Cadets Marching Band Collective, and later the US Scholastic Band Association, we have supported the development of scholastic performing ensembles through exceptional service, adjudication and venues. Beginning with one event in New Jersey, USBands has expanded to include thousands of bands in 150+ events nationwide.

Our guiding principle is to provide ensembles, regardless of style, size and experience, an opportunity to be successful, allowing students to benefit from their involvement with scholastic music. The rules that govern USBands’ events are minimal by design. USBands prides itself on a user-friendly approach to support and service, in which directors and performers can fully enjoy the performance process without the concern of rules and penalties.

Fall Marching

In October of 1988, The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps hosted a marching band competition at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Reactions to that event were overwhelmingly positive and numerous requests were received asking the Cadets organization to become more involved in the marching band activity. In response to those requests and with the cooperation, input, and support of tri-state area band directors and instructors, the Cadets Marching Band Cooperative (CMBC) was formed.

In 1989, the CMBC launched its first season by sanctioning eleven successful local events. The 1989 season culminated in a two day Championship event at Giants Stadium. In recent years, the organization has held National, State, Regional and local events have featured performances by some of the finest bands in over 25 different states throughout the country.

In 1997 an evolution began, and expansion into other areas beyond marching band and created a Scholastic Services organization within Youth Education in the Arts, which included the US Scholastic Band Association (USSBA). Under this banner, we intend to provide all students more opportunities to perform, representing their high schools.

Youth Education in the Arts (YEA!) announced that the US Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) would be known as USBands effective January of 2012.

In addition to being the largest competitive circuit in the nation, USBands prides itself on three pillars of excellence. It is our goal to provide all participating members with access to the best venues, excellent and educational adjudication and outstanding customer service. Winter Indoor

USBands Indoor began in the winter of 2010, with several events strategically placed around the Northeast.

Disciplines include marching, standstill and concert percussion ensembles, as well as color guard programs. In addition to the many high school programs who participate in the winter season, ensembles from middle and elementary schools are more than welcome. Primarily focused on growing scholastic units, in 2012 USBands expanded to allow independent units to perform and compete in the circuit.

Celebrating its tenth season in 2019, USBands Indoor has taken off like never before. We pride ourselves on continuing to serve our participating units year round, including color guard and percussion ensembles of all levels.

USBands Indoor programs strive to attain the same levels of excellence to units as we do in the fall. It is our goal to provide all participating members with access to the best venues, excellent and educational adjudication and the highest level of customer service.

Spring Concert

The USBands Concert Series brings scholastic wind ensembles, concert bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles and choral groups into the world’s finest performance venues.

Each ensemble is evaluated in a non-competitive environment by renowned music educators and conductors, receiving private clinics and masterclass sessions as part of these once-in-a lifetime performance opportunities.

Launching in 2014 with one single event in downtown Philadelphia, USBands Concert brought over a dozen high school concert ensembles together for a full-day festival experience at the highly acclaimed Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.

Evaluators at USBands Concert Festivals provide positive, constructive digital commentary for both students and directors, as well as performance ratings at the director's discretion. After their performance, each ensemble adjourns to a private room to spend an additional 20 to 30 minutes with a guest clinician.
